About Us
In the Beginning:
Michelle Kennedy began her career with pets after purchasing her first show-quality Siberian Husky in 1980. After working in obedience for several years, she began grooming in 1984 and opened her first salon with a business partner in 1988 in Latham, NY. In 2002 she decided to sell the salon to stay home with her newborn and work in youth ministry. Three years later, Michelle began grooming again in the basement of her home. In 2007 she and Jill Pipino discussed the lack of education for pet stylists in our area and agreed to open a school to fill that void. This necessitated a move out of the basement and over to Plank Road. After a time it became clear that the new facility did not meet NYS Education Department requirements; and we moved again. But the new, new facility wasn’t big enough; and we moved again. With 4,000 sq. ft. on each floor of the new, new, new facility, we should be here for awhile!
The Growing Years:
Over the years our staff has grown, too. Jill decided to move to Tennessee and sold her salon (my old salon, which she had bought from someone else). She didn’t end up moving and now is one of the Directors in charge of Education at Golden Paws Pet Styling Academy. Jenny Deyoe was a teenager in the youth group when I offered her a bathing position. She graduated high school and began learning to groom. She is now one of the most talented young stylists out there. Amanda Albright (my daughter) joined us a year after Jenny. She majored in Communications at Marist College before joining a local radio station. She now works here full-time and then works at the radio station. My husband, Michael, has now joined the staff as our Director of Operations. He’s going to keep us all in line.
Staff:
Amanda Albright (Pet Stylist) :Amada has been hanging around the grooming shop since she was a year old, napping in a crate with one of the dogs while Michelle would be grooming (the crate door was open!). She spent her teenage years bathing in the shop whenever an extra hand was needed. In early 2009 Amanda made the move to full-time pet stylist. Amanda lives in Saratoga with her Cairn Terrier, Audrey. |

Jenny Deyoe (Pet Stylist, Instructor) :Jenny began her career in pet styling in 2008, bathing dogs part time. She quickly moved on to become a full-time groomer later that summer. Jenny is a life-long horse enthusiast and currently lives in Clifton Park with 4 horses, 4 dogs (Rough Collie, English Springer Spaniel, American Cocker Spaniel and German Shepherd Dog) and 5 cats. |
|
Jill Pipino (Director of Education, Instructor, Pet Stylist) :Jill has been involved in the pet styling industry since 1998. She is currently competing in the “A” Division in grooming competitions. She also competes in creative groom competitions (just Google giraffe poodle and you’ll see her dog). Jill and her husband live in Colonie with their Standard Poodle, Field Spaniel, Pit Bull Terrier and guinea pig. |

Michael Kennedy (Operations Director) :Michael married into the pet styling business. He studied Communications at Marist College and received his Master’s at SUNY Albany. His background in business administration and owning many pets (see below) have merged into a new career. You can meet Michael at the front desk on your next visit. |

Michelle Kennedy, ICMG (School Director, Pet Stylist, and Instructor) :Michelle became involved with dogs in 1980, working with her Siberian mix in obedience. In 1981 she purchased her first Siberian husky and began showing under the kennel name Karasmova. By 1984, she began grooming and teaching obedience, opening her first salon in 1988. In 2010, she began Golden Paws Pet Styling Academy in Clifton Park. Michelle lives in Clifton Park with her husband (see above), two of her four daughters (also see Amanda above), Standard Poodle, Cairn Terrier, Swedish Vallhund, mini Goldendoodle, Bichon Frise and short-haried cat. |
